This session was something really special.
From the very start, there was so much love and energy. Kids running around, cousins reconnecting, lots of laughter, lots of hugging. The kind of session that feels joyful but also meaningful because you know how rare it is to have everyone in the same place at the same time (boy is THAT a scheduling challenge as families grow!)
In the middle of the session, something unexpected happened.
While I was photographing the entire group, I thought I saw something dark move across my lens. When I looked closer, I realized you could actually see wings behind the family in the images. A bald eagle had flown right overhead.
Moments later, it landed on the beach nearby, trying to take a dead fish from the sand. Everyone stopped. We all watched together. It was quiet and emotional and honestly kind of magical. I captured images of the eagle itself, the family watching, and even one where you can see the wings behind them. One of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that you could never plan, but will never forget!
One of my favorite moments came near the end. We made a tunnel for Mom to run through, which immediately turned into happy chaos and cheers. And since we were on the beach and surrounded by seagulls, we had to do it…. the classic run-through-the-seagulls shot! (I honestly think everyone should do this at least once in their life. It’s fun, it’s playful, and it always ends with laughter!)
At the very end of the session, the grandmother pulled me aside. She was crying and thanked me for making the day so special for her daughter. That moment hit me right in the heart. Because that’s what this is really about. Not just about photos, but creating something meaningful for the people you love most.
This session will always stay with me. The love, the laughter, the generations together, and yes, even the eagle. I know it made the experience even more special for this family, and I’m so grateful I was able to be part of it.
Here are some of my favorite shots from this wonderful session! I hope it makes you smile as much as I did putting it together!
